Baptism at Markby Green

Jane Emson at Brambles Farm, Thorntree and Netherfields, Middlesbrough

Rev Jane Emson, Pioneer Minister at Brambles Farm, Thorntree and Netherfields in Middlesbrough tells the story of Lewis who recently joined her New Worshipping Community at Markby Green and has recently been baptised.

“I met Lewis and his mum Denise a few months ago through our eco shop. I invited them to our New Worshipping Community. They come every Sunday to our 4 o’clock service. Prior to coming neither of them had been to church. Just before Christmas Lewis told me he wanted to be baptised which I did in January 2025. There both going to do the Start course and join our discipleship group which Linda Whitehead, who completed the Mustard Seed Stepping Up programme, leads.

I don't usually wear my robes when I do services. I have only worn them for the 8 baptisms I have done in the past year and when I do a communion service once a month. This says to people that something extra special is about to happen. All the people who I have baptised and those 6 people who have been confirmed, haven’t attended church prior to attending the New Worshiping Community.

God is moving powerfully in Brambles Farm, Thorntree and Netherfields and it is such a pleasure to be God's hand and feet serving him in communities that at times experience lots of difficulties.”
