Becca Hewitt is the 18 – 30’s worker for The Belfrey in York and has been appointed as the Multiply leader with the specific remit of growing a New Worshipping Community among the 20’s and 30’s in York as part of her wider role at the Belfrey.

Historically the Belfrey has not run a regular messy church and this year (2024) Becca gathered a team and started it monthly in the Belfrey hall. She says “While the monthly messy church is primarily aimed at non church families it has also been attracting families on the margins of the church who are no longer attending Sunday services.”

It’s promoted through the toddler group which Becca attends and also through social media and personal invitation. Typically they have 7-8 families a week with 2- 3 coming more consistently.

Becca was involved in running the church Alpha courses last year (2024), September to December and January to Easter. Following on from this Becca facilitated the course “keys to freedom” with a group of 7 women (6 aged between 25 and 40’s) who had come to the ALPHA courses (2 via the toddler group).

5 of them were not Christians now all are and they are still meeting!

5 of the women don’t come to church on Sundays but the small group has become church to them.
